Joint Outreach Program and Mangrove Planting Activity

Our office, Internal Audit Service (IAS), organized an Outreach Program entitled “Regalong Aklat Na May Mensahe At Kaalaman” last September 11, 2015. The activity was conducted at Plaza de Roxas, Nasugbu, Batangas and was participated by 120 students from different public elementary schools in Nasugbu, Batangas.

Message In The Sand books were given to 45 children aging 3-7 years old and 75 books entitled Ang Dyip Ni Mang Tomas were given to children aging 8-12 years old. The books were sponsored by Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development (CANVAS).

The activity started with a beautiful opening prayer lead by Ms Eva E. Gabon and was followed by the messages of DOLE IAS – OIC Director Rovelinda A. Dela Rosa and DSWD Nasugbu – Pantawid Pamilya Municipal Link Team Leader, Ms Marifel B. Tordicilla.

The children were divided into two groups (one for 3-7 years old and the other for 8-12 years old). They were instructed to fall in line and receive the books together with the snacks provided by IAS employees.

After the book distribution, the children were asked to volunteer reading the books in front. A 7 year-old, Roxy Lady Ken Motos, volunteered to lead the reading of the book Message In The Sand, while Jenilyn Concepcion, 11 year old, volunteered to read Ang Dyip Ni Mang Tomas.

After book reading, pencil and piece of paper were given to the children and they were asked to write their thank you message and what they want to be when they grow up.

Afternoon of the same day, we planted a total of 200 seedlings of mangroves at Brgy. Papaya, Nasugbu, Batangas in assistance and coordination with the DENR-CENRO Calaca headed by Mr. Erson A. Almido and with the help of the Brgy. Captain and few residents of Brgy. Papaya.

It became so memorable and exciting since it was our first time to plant mangroves. We also crossed the other side of the coastal barefooted, stepping on those muddy shores in the middle of a rain.

We are not just helping restore the mangrove forest and respond to the growing concerns on the ill-effects of climate change, we also had one of our great experiences. We even washed ourselves with deep well water.

It was really a day of fun and memories!

And great memories and meaningful activities are meant to be shared. What are yours?
