Hi everyone! Today, I will share with you one (technically two) of my week-end breakfast recipes – Basic French Toast and French Toast Roll-Ups. These can be made and joyfully eaten anytime of the day, but since we need to go to work very early considering the heavy traffic we had in Metro Manila, so I don’t have the luxury to cook this kind of breakfast during weekdays. So what are you waiting for? Prepare your ingredients and start making these two yummy and tummy-filling breakfast. These are also great as snacks for everyone in the family, especially for kids. So easy and so delicious that you will surely be rewarded with hugs and kisses.
Basic French Toast
Ingredients:
10 slices of white bread (I used Gardenia but you can use other bread – white or whole grain)
2 large eggs
1/2 cup milk (I used evaporated milk since its the only available but Fresh Milk is also good)
5 thin slices of cheddar cheese
1/4 cup butter
Procedure:
- Put 1 slice of cheddar cheese between 2 slices of bread to make a sandwich and set aside.
- Combine milk and eggs. Beat until mixture is well distributed.
- Heat the butter in a frying pan.
- Soak the cheese sandwiches in the egg-milk mixture until all sides are covered. Turn if necessary. Leave the bread to soak for 30 seconds to 1 minute until the egg is fully absorbed.
- Fry bread on each side until golden brown. Remove from heat and serve.

French Toast Roll-Ups
Ingredients:
6 slices of white bread
1 large egg
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup butter
Filling Options:
Peanut Butter
Strawberry Jelly
Ube Jam
Procedure:
- Flatten slices of white bread with a rolling pin (use the back of a serving spoon if you don’t have a rolling pin).
- Spread desired filling on 1 side of each slice of bread. I combined peanut butter and strawberry jelly for the 3 slices and Ube Jam and Strawberry Jelly for the other 3 slices. You can choose whatever flavor combination you would love depending on available fillings you had. Other great filling options are cream cheese, fruit slices, nutella, etc.
- Tightly roll up the slice of bread. Continue for remaining slices.
- Combine milk and eggs. Beat until mixture is well distributed.
- Heat the butter in a frying pan.
- Soak bread rolls in the egg-milk mixture. Leave the bread to soak for 30 seconds to 1 minute until the egg is fully absorbed.
- Fry rolls until golden brown.
- Remove from heat and serve.
- Option: Dip into cinnamon and sugar mixture then serve.

So that’s it! You can now serve new breakfast recipe for your family. Oh by the way, you can adjust the above ingredients depending on the number of persons you are going to serve. We are 5 people at home so I come up with that number of slices. If you have kids, you can ask them to help. This will make a great weekend bonding for you I’m sure. I’d be happy to hear your weekend experience with French Toast! Have fun!
